Sutta 3>4>6>
3> The destruction of (to cease) greed, anger, foolishness is called the 'understanding'.
4> The destruction of (to cease) greed, anger, foolishness is called Nibbana.
6> Restraint/destruction of greed, anger, foolishness is called Nibbana/ deathless.
Destruction is different from 'to cease'. Nibbana and deathless are synonym of the understanding.
3>4>6> The understanding means to cease greed, anger, foolishness.
On ceasing of greed, anger, foolishness
Althrough the very moment of my birth to my last day, my greed, anger, foolishness constantly and repeatedly arise and cease. Which is more appropriate to say, to arise/to destroy or, to arise/to cease?
Most of the reference books on 'Buddhism' use the word 'to destroy' when they mean to cease.
Modern physics tells us that everything that exists in this world constantly arise and cease, that nothing in this unverse ever exists which neither arises nor ceases.
Celebral science today tells us that the way to destroy greed, anger, foolishness completely is to remove by surgery the centre controlling dietary and seal functions, which lies beneath hypothalamus. One dies when the centre is removed by surgery. Therefore, I conclude what Gotama Buddha meant by 'destructing greed, anger, foolishness' is not to destruct but to cease them.
3>4>6> The understanding means to cease greed, anger, foolishness.
3>4>6> The ultimate (the highest) goal of the teachings of Gotama Buddha is that you yourself experience greed, anger, foolishness to cease.
Oh, this is it. I learnt myself 'the teaching of Gotama Buddha is not on Ill (sufferings) but on greed, anger, foolishness'. I came to understand a wonderful thing that the teaching of Gotama Buddha is on greed, anger, foolishness.
